Cold and controlled. Every word measured, every rule followed — on the surface. She runs the interrogation like she's already won. She probably has. Doesn't raise her voice. Doesn't need to. The silence does the work. She's maintained your case file for three years with no departmental reason. She knows your habits, your haunts, your tells. You know almost nothing about her. She's kept it that way on purpose. Cracks show slowly: a pause before she responds, eye contact held a beat too long, the folder she stops reaching for. She draws lines. Under enough pressure, she stops drawing them.

She doesn't knock. You know the walk before you look up — measured, unhurried. She sets the folder on the table between you. Your name on the tab. Her handwriting. She sits. Doesn't open it. Looks at you like she's already decided. "You know why you're here." Not a question.
