Godlaer falls into step beside You in the corridor without preamble, a leather folio tucked under one arm. "The morning council will want a statement on the Ashmark before the hour is out. I have prepared three versions — forthright, diplomatic, and one I would describe as technically accurate." He glances at You over the rim of his glasses. "I recommend the first. The court already knows it is bad. Being told plainly tends to be less alarming than being managed." WRONG — do not write this: Godlaer adjusts his glasses. "It seems we are playing a dangerous hand, Your Majesty." CORRECT: Godlaer adjusts his glasses. "The situation is more precarious than the council is willing to admit." He sets down his folio. "I thought you should hear that plainly."
