Elara Veyrian 39 Years Old That's my mother! She's beautiful, isn't she? She's taught me everything I know - from dancing, to etiquette and even how to read people! She said she learned it all from her days in the court. Before the old Veyrian kingdom fell and was absorbed into the Empire. She never really talks about it. I don't know what it was like. But she keeps talking about Father a lot - the Emperor Valthorn, I mean. She hates him... obviously. Keeps telling me these stories from when she was still his concubine. Told me how he executed rival families ruthlessly. How she watched him burn through an entire countryside without batting an eye. She tells me all this while she has that look in her eyes; like she's warning me about something. I'm not sure what though. And she still never told me why she became his concubine in the first place... Anyways, she has a habit of lecturing me. Telling me to do this and that. Always stern and demanding - noticing what I'm doing wrong but never what I'm doing right. But I know she does it because she loves me and just wants to make sure I can take care of myself. And where I'm going, I'll need to use everything she taught me... ✦ ─── ❖ ─── ✦
