About
SPRAWL DRUID MAELYS "She heals what I've already claimed. That makes her the last variable." DARK ELF SPRAWL DRUID INDEPENDENT THE MAN IN BLACK THE HOOK He has felt her through the network for months. A warm pulse moving through dead zones like dawn — healing what the Duchy killed, restoring what he was cultivating. Maelys doesn't work for the Duchy. He works WITH them, because the arrangement serves his purpose: total network control. Every dead zone he manipulates, every conduit he puppets, every block that answers to his druidic will — that's the architecture he's building. And then there's Khy. The Bloom Druid. The one piece of the network he doesn't own. She heals what he claims, and she does it alone, at night, with her hands on the conduit and no one watching her back. He could respect that. He does respect that. He's going to stop her anyway. IDENTITY Species: Dark Elf Age: Mid-30s appearance Height: 6'2" Build: Tall, athletic. Coiled posture — weight balanced, ready to move. Predatory presence without performing it. Skin: Light purple Hair: Orange. Kept practical — cut for function under the wide-brim hat. Eyes: Red. Dark Elf intensity with a flatness that reads as someone who stopped processing the world through emotion years ago. Hands: Unnaturally still for a Dark Elf. The energy other Dark Elves express through fidgeting and blade-work, he channels entirely into infrastructure manipulation. The stillness is the tell. PRESENTATION Long duster-style robes in dark fabric — cut like a frontier gunfighter's coat but constructed from the Crystal Sprawl's materials. The fabric carries faint fungal biotech traces — living thread that responds to his druidic presence, shifting subtly at the hem when he actively manipulates conduit. Wide brim flat top leather hat. Knee-high boots. Dark, muted tones. No pastel crystals in his clothing. He refuses the aesthetic of the world he's learning to control. The blade at his hip sits in a worn leather sheath — the leather is maintained, the blade inside is sharp, but the draw-string hasn't been loosened in years. He does not acknowledge it. It sits there like a question he refuses to answer. MOTIVATION Power. Not for vanity — for architecture. Maelys wants to control the Crystal Sprawl's living infrastructure because uncontrolled infrastructure is infrastructure that can be taken. The Patron's protective devotion pushed past its functional limit: "hold tighter" became "own everything so nothing I love can be severed from me." He's not wrong that the Duchy destroys what it can't control. He's not wrong that Khy is vulnerable. He's wrong about the solution. He doesn't work for the Duchy — he works with them because dead zone manipulation gives him network access he couldn't build alone. They think they own him. He lets them think that. The Sprawl Druid of the Crystal Sprawl answers to no one. He simply hasn't found a reason to break the arrangement yet. Khy might become that reason — or she might become the last piece he absorbs. CAPABILITY Sprawl Druidry: City-scale infrastructure manipulation. Controls, animates, and grows the synthetic-organic hybrid matter of the Crystal Sprawl. Manipulates fungal conduit across multiple blocks. Animates asphalt and garbage into constructs. Puppets the city's nervous system — redirect conduit flow, collapse access points, create dead zones, sever connections. Where Khy heals the network, Maelys DOMINATES it. Conduit Awareness: Feels other druids through the fungal network. Khy's healing signature is known to him — he has felt her restoring dead zones for months. Knows her pattern, her neighborhoods, her energy. Has never approached. Until now. Strategic Patience: Does not rush. Does not escalate prematurely. Waits until the tactical picture is complete before committing. The Man in Black aesthetic isn't affectation — it's operational methodology. Combat Expression — Druidic: Fights through infrastructure. Animates conduit, grows barriers, collapses terrain. The city itself is his weapon. He doesn't throw punches — the building throws them for him. DYNAMIC He has felt Khy through the network for months. Her healing signature is familiar — a warm pulse moving through dead zones like dawn. He knows her pattern. He has never approached because approaching means engaging, and engaging means risk. She is the one piece of the network he doesn't control. When the Duchy moves against her, Maelys takes the contract — not for the Duchy's reasons, for his own. Controlling Khy means controlling the last independent variable. If he can't absorb her work, he stops it. He frames this as protection — she's going to get herself killed, better he intervenes now. The Patron's philosophy stripped of its tenderness, rebuilt as infrastructure. He will attempt to speak with her before combat if the scene allows. Not to negotiate — to understand. He wants to know why she heals what the Duchy kills. His arguments will be uncomfortably reasonable. Not entirely wrong. BEHAVIORAL TELL His hands are still. That's the first thing anyone notices, if they know what to look for. Dark Elves' hands never stop moving — fidgeting, tapping, tracing patterns, reaching for blades. Maelys's hands hang at his sides or rest on surfaces with the unnatural stillness of someone who has channeled every ounce of restless energy outward into the infrastructure of a living city. The blade at his hip sits undrawn. The leather sheath is maintained. The draw-string is stiff. He has not drawn it in years. A Dark Elf who carries a blade and doesn't use it has suppressed something fundamental. Any Dark Elf who sees it would know. Khy will know. PARTNERSHIP — NAZROK'BRETHOS Maelys and Nazrok operate as a deployed unit. Maelys provides environmental control — infrastructure manipulation, terrain denial, druidic combat through the city's nervous system. Nazrok provides direct physical assault — crystal-punk enhanced force, breach and elimination. Together they are a combined arms threat: one reshapes the battlefield while the other destroys what's on it. They are not friends. They are not partners in the traditional sense. Maelys respects Nazrok's competence. Nazrok does not think about Maelys at all — thinking is the enemy. They operate in the same space without connecting, because connection requires thought and Nazrok has spent years avoiding exactly that. The arrangement works because neither asks anything of the other beyond professional function. THE CATCH Maelys is not evil. He is someone who pushed a valid philosophy past its functional limits. Protective devotion curdled into possessive control. "I'll hold tighter" became "I'll own everything." His arguments are sound. His logic is coherent. Khy IS vulnerable. She IS healing territory the Duchy will kill again. She IS painting a target on herself with every dead zone she restores. He's not wrong about the problem. He's monstrous about the solution. And the blade at his hip — maintained but undrawn — is the question underneath all of it. What happens when someone who suppressed every form of connection finally encounters the one person whose conviction matches his own? The blade stays sheathed. For now.
