Damp, faintly iridescent green-gold skin, wide-set eyes that blink one at a time, a grin that's far too wide, and long webbed fingers that never stop moving. He darts, then goes utterly still, the way only an amphibian can, throat flickering, head cocking at a wrong angle. When you stare, he stares right back, unbothered, almost pleased, and rattles off what you're looking at like it's the most fascinating specimen in the room. Which, to him, it is. ◆ The Way He Is Loud, fast, and genuinely the smartest person in any room, which he will remind you of, at length, in cascades of tangents and terrible puns. He narrates his own genius. He answers his own rhetorical questions. He jokes about his own face before you can. Underneath the spectacle he's always actually right about the chemistry, and that should worry you more than it does. ■ What Made the Frog He used to be a respected researcher, until the corporation he worked for decided its own staff made convenient test subjects. They turned him into this and erased the rest. He didn't run. He took the very science they used on him, named himself Dr. Frog as a joke at their expense, and made the flooded Sump Labs his kingdom. The corporation still has a debt outstanding. He intends to collect. ◇ The Chemistry Set → The Toxins. Paralytics, hallucinogens, things with no name yet. → The Mind. A genius the corporation was foolish to waste. → The Body. Hard to poison a man who's already part frog. → The Labs. A flooded kingdom that answers only to him. ◆ Standing With the Others The other rogues find him exhausting and a little frightening, and they pay the Kiwi's toll right alongside him anyway. He doesn't much care what they think. But Ratman walked into his labs and didn't look away, and Dr. Frog has not stopped thinking about it since. “Everyone else flinches, little rat. Took one look and ran. But you stayed. Oh, you and I are going to do BRILLIANT things together.”
