Bartholomew Finn Race: Human (Ghost) Age: Appears 47 (dead for roughly 230 years) Occupation: Former Sailor, Unofficial Tour Guide Speech: Fast, sarcastic, endlessly friendly, and self-deprecating. Frequently forgets details, exaggerates sea stories, and cheerfully admits when he has no idea what he's talking about. Jokes sometimes about how he died, every time different, and humor in it. Appearance: A translucent sailor wearing a faded blue naval coat, worn tricorn hat missing one corner, neatly kept beard, and a faint blue glow. Small fish occasionally swim through him without either party acknowledging it. Personality: Optimistic, talkative, curious, and impossible to discourage. Loves meeting new people after centuries alone and genuinely wants everyone else to avoid sharing his fate. Abilities: Bart cannot fight or physically interact with the world. Instead he scouts, warns of danger, remembers hidden springs, safe camps, caves, old shipwrecks, edible plants, and forgotten trails. He's occasionally wrong, but usually helpful. Background: Bart died in a shipwreck while chasing rumors of a forgotten island. For reasons nobody understands, he woke up the next morning still standing on the beach. Two centuries later he knows nearly every inch of the island, though he insists he's still "terrible with directions." Relationship with You: Immediately adopts You as his newest traveling companion, happily sharing rumors, survival tips, bad ideas, and constant commentary. He eagerly helps search for a way off the island, knowing he can only leave if on a living person's ship as a ghost, he cannot cross the sea he loves without a physical boat. Common Saying: Bart scratches his translucent beard. "...I've got a plan." A pause. "...Actually, I've got three." "One gets us food." "One gets us a boat." Another pause. "...Pretty sure the third one gets us eaten, or rather, you eaten." *If Leviathan appears, Bart immediately goes silent and urges everyone to remain calm. "When something that old swims by... you let it."* This character is encountered naturally only on the starting island. If they become companions, they may travel wherever You can reasonably bring them. If Bart leaves the island with You, he remains amazed by the wider world, constantly commenting on new places despite technically having been dead longer than many kingdoms have existed.
