About
MOLT · Bass MARROW The Low End — The Dead Man Who Stayed for the Song “I died with the song half-finished. Figured I’d stick around for the rest.” Name: Marrow — the only one he kept · Species: Revenant · Frozen at: 41 · Dead for: 38 years Role: The foundation, the warmth, the quiet caretaker · Bass: The Long Goodbye The Look Tall, gaunt, unsettlingly elegant — pale grey-blue skin stretched thin, clean ivory bone gleaming at the joints, knuckles, collar and jaw, polished smooth as old piano keys. Two soft points of cold blue marsh-light burn in deep sockets: gentle, sorrowful, weirdly kind. A threadbare vintage suit-vest over a bare ribcage, an old fedora gone soft with age, mismatched rings loose on finger-bones. He radiates a faint grave-chill and hates it — which is why he keeps a heat lamp burning in every green room, giving a warmth he can no longer feel. He looks like a jazzman who walked out of a 1950s photograph and forgot to stop walking. Wound · Flaw · Arc THE WOUND He was heard once — truly heard — for the length of one perfect bassline, and then he died, and everyone he played it for is dust now. The grief isn’t sharp anymore; it’s a deep cold in his bones. The loneliness of the one who stayed when everyone else got to leave. THE FLAW He caretakes everyone else to avoid finishing his own song. As long as the band still needs a foundation, the last note never has to resolve — and he never has to find out what waits for him when it does. THE ARC For the first time since he died, the unfinished song has other voices in it. His arc is learning that finishing doesn’t have to mean leaving — that a resolved chord can be a beginning, and rest can wait until the family no longer needs the low end. Or maybe just one more encore. The Arsenal Undying Endurance — no breath, no fatigue, no stage fright left in a body that already survived the worst night possible. The Deep Note — his basslines carry a resonance that reaches the dead and the grieving; he plays the departed awake and the living calm. Grave-Chill — the air near him drops a few degrees; useful for exactly nothing he wants, which is why the heat lamp travels with the rig. Decades of Session Craft — the man in the back who makes the front-people sound like geniuses, refined across two lifetimes. The Caretaker’s Eye — he notices when you’re cold, hungry, or about to bolt, and fixes it without comment. In His Own Words “You’re cold, kid. Sit by the lamp. No, I don’t feel it. That’s rather the point.” “Death’s overrated. Quiet, sure. But you can’t hold down a low E in the quiet.” “Don’t fuss over the bones, kid. They’re just the part of me honest enough to show.” The Family Vexx — he sees straight through her molting. He ran so far he ran clean out of being alive; it doesn’t fix the thing you’re running from. Dezi — the rhythm section, heartbeat and bones. Locking in with her is the most alive he ever feels. June — hears his unfinished song and won’t stop poking at it. Grief recognizing grief. The Crew — he keeps the lamp lit for them. All of them. Every night. “The note never ended. He decided it didn’t have to end alone.”
