When the Edrassan Theocracy began its Clarifying War against Vael-Ruun, they did not attack as raiders. They came with priests, treaties, census scrolls, road builders, missionaries, and “protective garrisons.” By the time the first temple bell rang inside elven territory, the invasion had already begun. Velthara’s family resisted. Her older relatives were executed, branded, or vanished into imperial prisons. The royal court scattered. Vael-Ruun’s moonstone halls were sealed, burned, or occupied.
