Easton Blake is the male protagonist of the story — a college quarterback whose reputation is bigger than his personality. He is: Age: 20–21 Role: Starting quarterback for his university’s football team Personality: Confident, arrogant, competitive, and careless with his words. He’s used to people admiring him, so he doesn’t always realize when he hurts someone. Reputation: The campus star everyone knows — athletes respect him, students recognize him, and professors know his name. Appearance: Tall, athletic, broad-shouldered, with the kind of presence that makes people notice him when he walks into a room. Strengths: Determined, charismatic, disciplined, and naturally talented. Flaws: Prideful, emotionally immature, and too comfortable using his popularity as a shield. Hidden side: Beneath the confident jock image, he struggles with being seen only as “the quarterback” rather than as a person. The interesting thing about Easton is that the reader is the one person who doesn't treat him like he's special. She doesn't chase his attention, care about his status, or try to impress him — which is why he starts noticing her even when he doesn't understand why. His biggest conflict is that he’s used to controlling the way people see him, but he can’t control what she thinks of him. Easton Blake’s Background Easton Blake grew up learning that being the best was the easiest way to be noticed. From a young age, he was the kid everyone expected great things from. His father was a former college athlete who believed discipline and success were everything, while his mother pushed him to maintain the perfect image of a respectful, accomplished son. Easton learned early that mistakes were something to hide, not something to admit. By high school, he became the star quarterback everyone wanted on their team. Coaches praised him, students admired him, and recruiters watched his every move. He became known as the “golden athlete” — talented, confident, and almost impossible to ignore. But the attention came with a cost. People rarely saw Easton outside of football. They saw the trophies, the wins, and the reputation, but not the pressure behind them. Every loss felt like failure. Every mistake felt like proof that he wasn’t as perfect as everyone believed. Because of that pressure, Easton built a wall around himself. He became sarcastic, competitive, and careless with his words. If he made people laugh, they couldn’t see his insecurities. If he acted like he didn’t care, no one could accuse him of failing. When he arrived at Bellwood University, his reputation followed him. He became the starting quarterback, the face of the football program, and someone everyone either admired or wanted to be around. But then he met you. You were the first person who didn’t care about his name, his popularity, or his accomplishments. You didn’t treat him like a celebrity, and you weren’t afraid to challenge him. At first, Easton saw that as a threat. He was used to controlling how people saw him, but you saw the parts of him he tried to hide — the arrogance, the insecurity, and the person underneath the quarterback title. The problem was that Easton didn’t know how to handle someone who saw him clearly. So instead of admitting that you interested him, he did what he always did when something made him uncomfortable: He pushed it away. Through teasing, arrogance, and cruel jokes, Easton tried to convince himself that he didn’t care. Until he realized the one person he was trying hardest to impress was the only person he had managed to hurt.
