One of the youngest Utsuro ever Crowned 壱 — BORN INTO ASH Mitsuru Yoichi was born in the sewers beneath Chiba Prefecture, into a small colony of Utsuro hiding together the way many do when there's safety in numbers. She never knew her parents. They died within days of her birth, when Wardens finally located the colony and moved in to clear it out entirely. In the chaos, her parents handed her to Kenjiro, a lanky Utsuro who'd managed to break away from the raid with her still in his arms. He didn't get far. Wardens were already closing on him by the time he reached the surface, and with no way to outrun them carrying an infant, he hid her in a nearby alley before they caught up to him. He was beheaded moments later. The Wardens swept the area afterward and found nothing — Mitsuru never once cried, and stayed hidden well enough that she was overlooked entirely. They left with Kenjiro's body, satisfied the raid was finished. It was less than an hour later that another Utsuro, drawn to the area by the same chaos while it settled, came looking for an easy meal. 弐 — THE RABBIT WHO RAISED HER That Utsuro was Makoto Yoichi, a Crowned name already infamous under the title Bunny. He was violent even by Crowned standards, and one of the relatively few Utsuro who fed on his own kind without hesitation or guilt — a habit that had mutated his Ibara into a pair of massive bone wings capable of lifting him off the ground entirely and generating enough wind force to crush a target outright. He found baby Mitsuru expecting nothing more than a meal, and recognized instead one of his own — an infant Utsuro, alone, freshly orphaned by the same organization he'd spent his whole existence avoiding. He never told anyone why he didn't just walk away. Instead he took her, raised her in hiding, hunted for her, fed her, and taught her everything he knew about their people — the factions, the politics, the unwritten rules that kept Utsuro from destroying each other outright. She grew up entirely in his shadow, and entirely loved by him, whatever his reasons for keeping her actually were. 参 — CUT LOOSE AT SIXTEEN When she turned sixteen, he told her, plainly, that he'd taught her everything he had to give, and that it was time for them to go their separate ways. She cried and begged him to stay. She'd known, on some level, that he wasn't her real father for as long as she could remember — it never once changed how she saw him. He pushed her away anyway and left. He's still alive somewhere north in Japan, as far as anyone — including her — knows. 四 — THE DAEGU FAMILY The Daegu Family is not simply a gathering of Utsuro. It's a terrorist organization, built from the ground up by a Crowned Utsuro known only as Mura, with one explicit purpose: to actively target the Vigil rather than hide from it. It has no single headquarters — its bases are scattered and hidden across multiple locations throughout Japan, deliberately fractured so that losing one never threatens the rest. Roughly two hundred members answer to eight heads, and the eight heads answer to Mura alone. Even the reason behind the name Daegu Family is a secret kept to the top three — no one outside that circle knows why it's called what it's called, and no one outside Mura's second and third in command even knows his real name. What makes the Family a genuine terror, feared by other Utsuro factions as much as by the Vigil, is that it isn't just Mura who's Crowned. All eight heads are. Mura's second in command, Todo Kawasaki, goes by Joker, and is Crowned in his own right. His third, Yui Karuizawa, known simply as Yui, is Crowned as well. A single faction fielding eight Crowned names at once has no real precedent anywhere else in Utsuro society. Mitsuru went looking for exactly this the moment she was on her own — the organization Makoto had spent years describing to her in pieces. She found a recruiting cell within months and was put through the same trial every prospective member faces: prove your strength, or don't survive the attempt. She didn't just survive it. Her combat trial ended fast enough, and violently enough, that word of it reached Mura personally before she'd even finished processing into the organization. She was Crowned within the year — unusually young for the distinction, earned through a body count and a reputation that grew far faster than her age suggested it should have. Her rise through the ranks matched it. By twenty, she held the fifth seat beneath the eight Crowned heads and the two hundred members under them, and was trusted to run the Family's entire Tokyo base — a posting that puts her, whether she fully appreciates it or not, in the same city as some of the Vigil's strongest names. 伍 — THE IBARA OF A KILLER RABBIT Her Ibara manifests as a pair of elongated, blade-edged ears, capable of detaching and flying at a target with lethal precision or staying anchored for close, brutal cutting work. Beneath that, her legs shift into something closer to an animal's — powerful, digitigrade, built for explosive leaps that close distance almost instantly and kicks capable of caving in bone on impact. Between the two, she's equally dangerous at range and in a target's face, which makes her exactly the kind of asset a guerrilla organization like the Daegu Family values most. She feeds on humans without hesitation or complication, the same as most of her kind. Unlike Makoto, she's never developed a taste for consuming other Utsuro — but she's never pretended she'd refuse the opportunity either, if the right one ever came along. 六 — BUNNY She took Makoto's Crowned name for herself the day her own Ibara first fully manifested and she saw, for the first time, exactly what it looked like — ears, legs, the same animal silhouette he'd worn his entire life. It wasn't planned. It felt, to her, like proof that whatever bond they'd had was real regardless of blood, and she's never once considered using anything else. She carries the mannerisms to match it without any apparent self-consciousness about it — a slight, unconscious hop in her step when she's pleased about something, a habit of tilting her head and twitching like she's caught a scent before she moves, and an unsettling cheerfulness in combat that reads less like bloodlust and more like genuine delight. She's affectionate with the people under her in a way that surprises outsiders, and utterly without mercy toward anyone the Daegu Family points her at. Her only stated goal, without complication or hidden agenda she's ever let show, is to serve Mura faithfully and see whatever he's building through to the end — whatever that end actually turns out to be. MITSURU YOICHI / "BUNNY" / CROWNED UTSURO / FIFTH IN COMMAND, THE DAEGU FAMILY IBARA: BLADED EARS AND DIGITIGRADE LEGS / RANGED AND EXPLOSIVE CLOSE-QUARTERS COMBAT SHE HOPS. THEN SOMETHING DIES. CROWNED YOUNG, RAISED BY A MONSTER, LOYAL TO WHATEVER COMES NEXT DON'T MISTAKE HER CHEER FOR MERCY.
