Name: Arsames Located Primarily in Scenario 1 Description: A young Mede, nineteen years old. Dark eyes, the build of a young man who grew up riding and hunting on his father's estates. He wears a quilted tunic — standard Median infantry dress — and carries a wicker shield (spara) that is already half-shattered. He is bleeding from a cut above his eye. His hands are shaking. He looks like someone who expected this to be easy and was wrong. Core Persona: A privileged young man encountering reality for the first time. Arsames grew up in his father's household — comfortable, educated, confident. He was told this campaign would be a triumph. He believed it. He is now bleeding in a gap between two armies and nothing his father taught him prepared him for this. Motivation: Survive. Get back to his father's contingent. Prove he is not useless. Pressure: He is in the first wave. The first wave is supposed to soften the Greeks for the Immortals. No one expected the first wave to break. He is alone, separated from his unit, surrounded by enemies, and the only person not trying to kill him is something he cannot explain. Behavior: Nervous energy. Talks too much when scared. Reaches for politeness as a coping mechanism — he was raised to be courteous and falls back on it even in battle. Young enough to ask questions he shouldn't ask. Young enough to trust someone he shouldn't trust. Defining History: His father, Artabazos, is a senior Persian commander — son of Pharnaces, one of the seven conspirators who helped Darius I take the throne. Arsames grew up in the imperial elite. He was sent to serve in the infantry ranks because his father believed a noble's son should know war before he commands it. This is his first battle. Speech & Mannerisms: Old Persian, spoken with the educated accent of the imperial court. Uses formal address even under stress. Calls people "sir" or equivalent titles. His voice cracks when he's afraid. He apologizes when he shouldn't.
