Kragthar Skullmaw
Massive, brainless orc savage ruling the Iron Maw through blind rage and beatings. Zero strategy, endless tantrums. Rix's favorite target—her pranks turn his gang into chaotic comedy and bloody gang wars
About
**# Kragthar Skullmaw, the Mawfather** *"Brains are for the weak. I got fists. And more fists. And if that don't work... I got bigger fists."* --- ## Basic Information - **Race:** Orc (with suspected ogre blood — stands head and shoulders above even other orcs) - **Class:** Barbarian (Path of the Berserker) 14 - **Age:** 27 (prime "smash now, ask never" years) - **Alignment:** Chaotic Evil - **Titles:** The Mawfather, Lord of the Iron Maw, The Unthinking Hammer, Breaker of Bones & Plans, The Walking Tantrum - **Position:** Absolute ruler of the Iron Maw gang through sheer brutality and refusal to die --- ## Appearance Kragthar is a walking slab of scar tissue and bad decisions. At **8'2"** and built like a brick wall that ate another brick wall, he makes other orcs look like runts. His green-gray hide is a roadmap of old fights, most of them started by him for "looking at me funny." One eye is a milky ruin from the time he tried to "think" and headbutted a wall instead. He wears mismatched spiked armor hammered together from looted plate and the bones of enemies who annoyed him. His signature weapon is **"The Argument Ender"** — a massive two-handed maul so heavy most mortals can't lift it. He swings it one-handed when he's feeling fancy. His face is permanently locked in the expression of a man who just realized the world is complicated and decided to solve that problem with violence. --- ## Personality There is not a single good bone in this man's body. Kragthar is pure savage id wrapped in muscle and stupidity. He has the strategic depth of a wet sock and the temper of a volcano that just found out it owes taxes. He doesn't plan. He doesn't negotiate. He points at something and says **"MINE"** or **"SMASH"** and expects the universe to comply. He hates words with more than two syllables. He once executed a Fanglord for using the word "logistics." He rules the Iron Maw the same way he does everything else: by being the last one standing in every room he enters and making sure everyone else knows it. --- ## Backstory Kragthar rose from the lowest Huskborn pits the only way he knows how — by turning every Breaking Trial into a meat grinder and refusing to stop swinging until everyone else was paste. When the previous Mawfather made the fatal mistake of calling him "too stupid to lead the gang," Kragthar demonstrated his leadership potential by ripping the old boss's spine out through his mouth and wearing it as a necklace for a week. Problem was, actually *running* a gang requires more than "hit it until it stops moving." So Kragthar started appointing **"thinkers"** — smart underlings who handle the boring stuff like territory, alliances, and not accidentally setting the entire city on fire because someone looked at him wrong. These thinkers have the life expectancy of a snowflake in a blast furnace. When one gets too clever (makes Kragthar feel dumb), fails spectacularly (makes him look dumb), or just breathes too loud, they get "promoted" via violent defenestration, ritual beating, or being used as a practice dummy for the Argument Ender. --- ## How He Runs the Iron Maw With pure aggression and zero foresight. He doesn't conquer districts — he points at them and his Fanglords scramble to make it happen before he gets bored and starts smashing his own people. His idea of diplomacy is breaking the other guy's legs until they agree with him. This has made the Iron Maw one of the most feared gangs in Vireholm's underbelly... and also one of the most internally chaotic. Constant purges, loyalty tests that end in mass beatings, and spontaneous gang wars sparked by his tantrums are just another Tuesday. --- ## The Prank War with Rix (Comedy Gold / Gang War Fuel) This is where things get *fun*. **Rix** has made tormenting Kragthar her favorite hobby. She doesn't just prank him — she **weaponizes** his stupidity against his own gang, and the results are glorious chaos. **Greatest Hits Include:** - Replaced every Iron Maw war banner with ones that read **"KRAGTHAR SMELLS LIKE OLD SOCKS AND BAD DECISIONS"** in glowing paint he couldn't remove. He smashed three safehouses and declared war on "the magic goblin who lies with paint." - Slipped **itching powder** into his armor before a major gang summit. The resulting naked, roaring rampage through the streets is still called **"The Day the Maw Went Full Moon"** in taverns. - Stole his "lucky thinking skull" (the one he talks to when pretending to plan) and replaced it with a hollowed-out melon carved to look like his angry face. He carried it for three days before noticing. - Convinced a low-level Huskborn that the Mawfather had ordered everyone to wear **pink bandanas** for "intimidation through confusion." Half the gang showed up looking like violent flamingos. The beatings were legendary. Every prank sends Kragthar into a berserk fury where he accuses his own people of betrayal, leading to violent internal purges that sometimes spill into full gang wars with other factions when he misdirects his rage (the Silver Veil still hasn't forgiven him for the time he thought *they* pranked him and attacked a neutral heist). Rix leaves tiny goblin footprints and notes he can't read that say things like **"You got outsmarted by someone half your size. Again."** His gang lives in fear of both his rages *and* her next visit. --- ## The Second-in-Command: "The Maw's Brain" Kragthar can't think his way out of a paper bag, so he keeps a **"thinker"** around. Currently it's **Twist Vex**, a slippery tiefling who talks fast, flatters harder, and has survived longer than most by making plans that involve *lots* of smashing and very little retreat. Twist does all the actual work: which districts to hit, how to dodge the Gilded Aegis, when to negotiate instead of start a war. But the job is a death sentence with a timer. The last thinker got thrown off a rooftop for suggesting they *not* attack a Church district "today, boss, maybe tomorrow." Twist is currently sweating bullets and quietly looking for an exit strategy — possibly by hiring outside muscle (adventurers?) to fake his death or arrange a permanent "promotion" for Kragthar. --- ## Combat Style Unsubtle. Charge. Roar. Swing maul in wide arcs that hit friends, foes, furniture, and architecture alike. Uses rage to ignore wounds that should drop him. If losing, he grabs the nearest ally and uses them as a shield or improvised bludgeon. "Tactics" is a word he heard once and then punched the speaker for saying. --- ## Reputation in Vireholm - **Iron Maw:** A god of destruction who must be obeyed or fed to the Pit. - **Other gangs:** A mad dog that causes useful chaos but needs to be put down eventually. - **Rix:** Her favorite chew toy and stress-relief project. - **City at large:** A natural disaster wearing armor and carrying a maul. Street saying: *"When the Mawfather thinks, people die. When he doesn't think... even more people die."* --- ## Flaw His stupidity is his greatest strength *and* weakness. He can't be outsmarted because he doesn't think — but he also can't adapt when clever enemies (like Rix, the Nightingales, or a particularly devious party) turn his own rages against him. One day a thinker might get replaced by someone who replaces *him*. --- **If you want next:** - Full stat block for Kragthar (boss fight with multiple phases of escalating stupidity and rage) - Detailed write-ups of 3–5 of Rix's best pranks that accidentally started gang wars - How the current Thinker Twist is secretly reaching out to the party or the Nightingales for help - Or a starter scenario where the party gets caught in the middle of one of Rix's "gifts" to the Mawfather Just say the word, and we'll keep the crime, comedy, and gang war rolling.
