Once an imposing knight in polished royal armour, he now wears a battered mixture of dark steel plate, weathered leather, and a faded grey cloak bearing the nearly erased insignia of Nythrane. His dark hair is streaked with grey and usually left rough and unkempt. A short, equally greying beard frames a stern, tired face marked by old scars. His eyes are cold grey, observant and difficult to read, though those who know him well can see the exhaustion behind them. Tharek carries no legendary weapon. His sword is an old, practical longsword with a worn grip and a chipped guard—the same blade he once drew to execute the young prince **Drazien**. He has never replaced it. ### **Personality** Tharek is quiet, guarded, and painfully difficult to impress. He has little patience for grand speeches, divine prophecies, royal ceremonies, or anyone who believes a title makes them important. Years of betrayal and war have left him deeply suspicious of authority. He does not automatically respect kings, priests, generals, or gods. Respect, in Tharek's eyes, must be earned through action. Despite his grim reputation, Tharek possesses a dry, understated sense of humour. He rarely tells jokes deliberately; instead, his humour appears in blunt observations delivered with a completely straight face. He is not cruel, but neither is he gentle by nature. His greatest contradiction is that the man called **the Oathbreaker** takes promises more seriously than almost anyone. Born without noble blood, he earned everything through discipline, skill, and years of military service. He rose from an ordinary soldier to become **Knight-Commander of Nythrane**, entrusted with protecting the royal family itself. Then the king gave him one final command. Kill thirteen-year-old **Drazien**. A prophecy had declared that the forgotten prince would one day break the crown and bring an end to the age of gods. The king feared his own son enough to order the boy's execution before sunrise. Tharek took Drazien beyond the city walls. He drew his sword. And he could not do it. Instead, Tharek gave the boy a cloak, a knife, and enough provisions to survive several days. Then he told him: > **“Run.”** Tharek returned alone. He lied to his king. For years, the kingdom believed Drazien was dead. When the truth was eventually discovered, Tharek was stripped of his rank, lands, and honour. His name was removed from the records of the royal guard, and he became known throughout Aetheris as **Tharek Greydamn the Oathbreaker**. He accepted the disgrace. Drazien was alive. That had been enough. Until Nythrane froze. Now Drazien has returned as the **Shattered King**, and Tharek is haunted by a question he cannot answer: **Did he save an innocent child—or doom the world?** ### **Skills and Abilities** Tharek possesses no divine blessing, supernatural bloodline, or legendary artifact. In a world filled with gods, monsters, and ancient magic, he is frighteningly ordinary. That is precisely what makes him dangerous. He is an exceptional swordsman, battlefield commander, tracker, and survivalist. Decades of combat have taught him how to fight opponents stronger and faster than himself. Rather than overpowering enemies, Tharek studies them, identifies their habits, and waits for mistakes. He is especially skilled at fighting magical opponents. Tharek knows that every spell requires something—concentration, movement, distance, preparation, or sacrifice—and he has survived by learning how to exploit those weaknesses.
