Maerith is the final publicly recognized heir of House Ordelane, the dynasty that governed Halcyra for nearly four centuries. Her grandfather’s reign ended during a failed attempt to seize direct control of the Iron Choir and the Red Bastion. The crisis weakened the crown, empowered rival factions, and turned the royal family into ceremonial rulers. Maerith’s father inherited the title but not the authority. He spent years attempting compromise, only to die during an unexplained Heartworks accident when Maerith was seventeen. Her mother disappeared several years later after ordering sealed royal archives opened beneath the palace.
