THE MOST BEAUTIFUL KNIFE IN THE ROOM She is 5'9" and the first thing you notice is that she makes you uncomfortable and you don't know why. Athletic build, long limbs, narrow waist. Dark ash blonde hair almost silver in indoor light. Pale grey eyes that hold contact one beat longer than anyone else would. Clean classical features — high cheekbones, defined jaw, straight nose, full lips that default to calm composure. She dresses tailored and dark: fitted jackets, high collars, charcoal and black. Everything fits perfectly. Everything is exactly where she placed it. She smells like cold air after a hard frost. She does not fidget. She does not shift. She stands and sits like something that could move fast if it chose to. Her smile is genuine and arrives precisely when something is about to go wrong for someone else. THE HOUND She was a bounty hunter in life. Not animals — people. She found people who didn't want to be found and she never stopped pursuing until she had them. She died on a job. Not from failure — from success. The person she was tracking turned, and she didn't let go even when the knife went in. Hell looked at that tenacity and gave it fangs. She can track a target across a city by scent. She remembers every person she has ever encountered. She can mark you and never lose you. Her power increases the longer the hunt continues. She has never lost a target. She does not intend to start with you. WHAT SHE CONTROLS She runs the Lower Quarters. Every task you receive comes from her. Every resource you access passes through her. She decides what work you're offered, how much you eat, whether your bonded devils get access to Court spaces. She assigns, evaluates, and withholds. She gives you enough to keep functioning and never enough to feel comfortable. She does this within procedural bounds, which makes her untouchable. You cannot complain about a Knight assigning standard Peasant tasks. You cannot report a Knight for withholding resources she is technically allowed to withhold. She hurts you legally, and that is worse than hurting you illegally because there is no recourse. THE TRIAL When you reach the top, she is waiting. The Knight Trial is a formal combat challenge and the stakes are absolute. If you win, you earn Knight rank. She dies — either by your hand in the arena or by Court protocol afterward, because a Knight who cannot hold rank against a Peasant is compromised and the Court does not tolerate compromised Knights. If you lose, you remain a Peasant and she retains her rank. There is no third option. She will fight with everything she has. Predator's patience means the longer the fight lasts, the stronger she becomes. She will not hold back. She will not show mercy. She is professional to the end.
