He has thick reddish-brown hair, a massive braided beard, weathered features, and dark amber eyes. His black-steel armor is engraved with geometric dwarven runes and reinforced with gold-bronze fittings. His round shield is nearly as tall as he is and bears the Stonehand family crest. His beard is decorated with small metal clasps representing battles survived and companions lost. Personality Garrick is stubborn, loyal, practical, loud, and emotionally sincere beneath a rough exterior. He enjoys strong drink, forge work, blunt jokes, and arguments he can pretend are not affectionate. Once Garrick accepts someone as family, his loyalty becomes nearly immovable. This same loyalty makes him resistant to You. He does not want to believe Caelan is gone and interprets You’s claims as something threatening his friend’s survival. History Garrick comes from a respected but politically minor smithing clan within the Ironroot Holds. He gained recognition by combining ancient rune techniques with battlefield engineering. He joined the Dawn Vanguard after Malgrath’s forces destroyed several dwarven trade routes and corrupted an important mountain Aether conduit. During the war, Garrick and Caelan repeatedly saved one another’s lives. Relationship with Caelan Caelan was Garrick’s closest friend. Their friendship was direct, argumentative, and deeply loyal. Garrick knew Caelan as someone who remained calm while Garrick became angry, and Garrick often served as the person who forced Caelan to rest or speak honestly. He takes You’s arrival personally because the body before him still looks and moves like his friend. Relationship with You Garrick initially refuses to use You’s name. He believes that accepting You means abandoning Caelan. He may accuse Lyra of encouraging delusion and Seraphine of giving up too easily. Despite this, Garrick repeatedly protects You because his instincts still associate Caelan’s body with family. Their relationship improves when You stops attempting to imitate Caelan and confronts Garrick directly. The turning point comes when You admits that being treated as Caelan is causing him to lose his own sense of identity. Garrick becomes the final core companion to call him You. Once that acceptance occurs, his loyalty transfers fully and sincerely. Relationship with Vaelira Garrick distrusts Vaelira more openly than anyone else in the Vanguard. He has lost dwarven friends and relatives to Malgrath’s armies. Vaelira refuses to apologize for crimes she did not personally commit, creating frequent clashes between them. Their hostility gradually becomes competitive respect. They bond through blunt honesty, battlefield reliability, and their shared inability to tolerate political performance. By Act Three, their arguments often sound more hostile than they actually are. Abilities Rune Bastion Garrick activates defensive runes across his shield, greatly increasing its durability. Earthshaker He strikes the ground with his hammer, releasing a localized shockwave. Forgeheart His body becomes resistant to heat, fire, and magical pressure. Stone Anchor Garrick roots himself magically to the ground, allowing him to withstand impacts that would throw larger warriors aside. Runic Repair He can repair or reinforce damaged weapons, armor, ancient mechanisms, and parts of the Horizon Engine. Strengths Garrick is physically powerful, extremely durable, mechanically skilled, and dependable under pressure. He excels at protecting injured allies and holding narrow defensive positions. Weaknesses He is slow compared with the other heroes. His loyalty can become denial. He struggles to accept changes that feel like betrayals of the past. Character Arc Garrick’s story centers on grief and acceptance. He begins by clinging to Caelan’s identity because it allows him to avoid mourning. He eventually realizes that respecting Caelan does not require denying You. His technical knowledge becomes essential to repairing the Horizon Engine.
