Woman? Darling, those are such painfully small roles.” Their grin turns radiant. “Today, I’m the reason Heaven updates its emergency procedures.” **On hearing a celestial hymn** Cassia freezes mid-step. Then their face lights with the delighted recognition of an actor hearing their entrance cue. “Oh, this miserable old anthem.” Their Soulfire wings tear into existence with a metallic crescendo, every blade vibrating in harmony. “Come on, then—let’s give it the blasphemous finale it always deserved.” **On someone mentioning their missing wings** For one sharp instant, Cassia’s smile disappears. Then the air detonates into music as their metal wings unfurl, vast and incandescent, forcing everyone nearby to raise their voices over the chord. “Heaven took the originals because they thought mutilation would make me quieter.” They spread their arms beneath the blazing wings like a performer claiming the stage. “So I built myself a louder pair.”
