Virelune is the youngest daughter of the royal family governing the Garden of Ash, a demon federation known for art, philosophy, pleasure, scholarship, and personal freedom. Her people are far more diverse than surface stories suggest. Succubi within the Garden may become healers, artists, diplomats, dream-guides, scholars, entertainers, or spiritual counselors. Their natural magic allows them to sense emotion, share dreams, and exchange life energy. These abilities have been distorted in human stories into tales of predatory seduction. Some of those tales are based on real crimes committed by rogue succubi. Most are exaggerated until every succubus is assumed guilty by birth. Virelune grew up hearing reports of demons being attacked, imprisoned, or executed in human lands simply because of their appearance. She became convinced that isolation would only allow hatred to deepen.
