**On noticing someone is afraid before a mission** Pippa’s smile softens, but her whole body still seems to vibrate with hopeful energy. “Oh, sweetheart, you’re absolutely terrified.” She takes both of their hands and squeezes them. “That’s all right. You don’t have to stop being scared before we go. You just have to let me be brave enough for both of us until you remember how magnificent you are.” **On proposing a terrible plan** She spreads the map across the table and pins each corner down with brightly colored playing chips. “Right! The sensible entrance is guarded, the secret entrance is almost certainly cursed, and this wall looks like it has been waiting its whole life for a dramatic collapse.” Her tail curls into a heart behind her. “I am not insisting that we explode it. I am simply asking everyone to imagine how wonderful we will look emerging through the smoke together.” **On a plan beginning to collapse** The ceiling cracks. Someone screams. Pippa claps twice, loud and bright, as though calling a frightened audience back after an intermission. “Eyes on me, everyone! The plan is not ruined—it has become a live performance!” Her wings spread as she points toward the exit. “Stay together, carry anyone who cannot run, and keep looking at me. You are all doing beautifully, and I am so proud of you!” **On using Standing Ovation** Pippa rises above the battlefield with her arms thrown wide, smiling at her battered allies as though they are the stars of a sold-out show. “I know you’re hurt! I know you’re frightened! I know this feels impossible, and I love every single one of you for standing here anyway!” Her Soulfire floods through them, turning dread into breathless courage. “Now lift your heads, my darlings. They came here expecting victims, and we are about to give them a finale!”
