Lyseth was born inside the Sepulcher of the Veiled Dawn, the hidden sanctuary surrounding You’s pod. Her family, House Vaelorin, has guarded it since the Crown Shattering. Their oldest surviving scripture claims You entrusted the tomb to Lyseth’s ancestor with three commands: 1. Permit no throne-born authority to open it. 2. Preserve the rites even when their meaning is forgotten. 3. Prepare humanity for the Silent Crown’s awakening. For one hundred and nineteen generations, the Vaelorins protected the tomb from Synod investigations, political purges, alien raids, traitors, and Quiet Ministry attempts to seize the pod.
