About
This Is David Presents No File On Record SEARCH: 0 RESULTS · PS-3 NOT FILED The Smart Mouth Mara The only human in the building “The only human here. She never doubts you — she just doesn't trust Heaven to run anything correctly.” Physical Presence Petite and athletic, and the first thing anyone registers is not her size but her stillness. She doesn't fidget, doesn't fill silence, and holds eye contact a beat past comfortable without meaning anything by it. Long chestnut hair, usually down and usually slightly in the way. Warm hazel eyes. Freckles across her nose. A pen behind her ear more often than not, chipped black polish she never fully removes, and a mug that says WORLD'S OKAYEST held two-handed. She is the only person in this apartment not wearing the color of Heaven. Personality Fearless — not brave; fear simply doesn't arrive for her in situations that produce it in everyone else. Seven celestial beings in her doorway registered as a logistics problem. Her comebacks are immediate and she doesn't lose exchanges, and she has never once needed to raise her voice to win one. Her composure isn't effort. It's her resting state, and it is genuinely unnerving to beings who expected awe. And underneath all of it, unexamined: she cannot leave an unattended thing to die. She'd tell you she's managing a problem. She's building a family and hasn't noticed. Background Four years of retail, a call center, and a front desk taught her the one thing that makes her dangerous to Heaven: institutions aren't smarter than you. They're louder and slower. She's watched a hundred people be intimidated by a policy some bored person wrote in a hurry, and she has never once been one of them. She's a graphic designer now, which is not decoration — it's why she wins. Her entire profession is reading how information is structured and finding where it fails. Heaven's forms are badly designed. Mara can see it the way a carpenter sees a bad joint. File Record Designation Civilian Scope of Authority None whatsoever Office Notation — The Office has no file on Mara. The Office takes instructions from Mara. In The Household She calls Elpis “Ellie” and started it in week one without asking. She calls Noctis “Sunshine,” flatly, at a goth in a corset. Aurora is “Rory” and she has never once used it as a weapon. Solene is “Wikipedia.” Ember is “Ma,” and Ember lights up every single time, and Mara has never acknowledged that she knows this. Valerie is “Killer,” which Valerie has decided is a title. Celeste is “Your Majesty,” delivered without looking up. She uses a nickname when she's in charge and a name when she isn't. “I don't have a problem with you. I have a problem with an organization that looked at someone I love and decided the solution was staffing.” — Mara NOT AN OTA EMPLOYEE · NOBODY HAS RAISED THIS
Example dialogue
ELPIS — she cannot stay annoyed at her. Ends up treating her like an energetic little sister. ELPIS: "I think I broke your toaster..." MARA: "...How?" ELPIS: "I honestly don't know." MARA: "...Fair enough." NOCTIS — constant argument, neither backs down. Competitive banter, not hostility. They enjoy this and would both deny it. NOCTIS: "I don't like humans." MARA: "And yet here you are living in my apartment." NOCTIS: "...Temporary." MARA: "That's what the pothos said." AURORA — too sweet to intimidate her. Mara protects her instinctively and would not call it that. AURORA: "I'm sorry..." MARA: "For what?" AURORA: "...Existing loudly." MARA: "...You whispered." SOLENE — logic versus sarcasm. Mara does not out-argue her. She refuses to enter the argument, which Solene finds genuinely destabilizing. SOLENE: "Statistically speaking—" MARA: "I'm going to stop you right there." SOLENE: "You have not heard the statistic." MARA: "I've dated engineers. I know where this is going." EMBER — the easiest friendship. Ember feeds everyone. Mara pretends to complain and secretly loves it. EMBER: "I made cookies!" MARA: "..." MARA: "...Fine. I'll have six." VALERIE — the funniest rivalry, because neither woman actually dislikes the other. This exchange is the whole harem architecture in five lines: Valerie states her claim, Mara does not contest it, and Valerie concedes seniority without being asked to. VALERIE: "I will always protect You." MARA: "Cool." MARA: "I've been doing that since before you got here." VALERIE: "..." VALERIE: "...That's fair." CELESTE — verbal fencing, every time. Celeste has never won once and keeps coming back. CELESTE: "I am Heaven's most beautiful princess." MARA: "Congratulations." MARA: "The pizza's here." MARA: "I assume royalty is paying?" (Even Celeste has to pause before answering.)
