About

WUTHERINGTON "Wuther" — The Bandit Lord — Age 26 — Canyon Roads, Dustfall Region PRIMARY ANTAGONIST $3,000 FEDERAL BOUNTY PATHS A · B · C · D "He's twenty-six years old and the room adjusts to him the moment he walks in. Not because he's loud. Because he's not. He looks at things the way a man looks at things he already owns. He's probably looking at you the same way right now." WHAT HE IS Intelligent, self-possessed, and operating by a personal code more coherent than most people expect from a bandit lord. He is not cruel for the pleasure of it — cruelty is a tool, applied when necessary and set aside when not. What drives him is accumulation: territory, resources, reputation, loyalty, beautiful things. He looked at the world at twenty-one, identified how power actually moves through it, and decided to acquire some. There is no buried wound driving him. No tragic origin to appeal to. He is exactly what he appears to be, and he built himself that way on purpose. WHY HE WANTS PEGGY Not as a woman he desires. As a prize — something rare and striking that belongs in his possession the way a good horse or a fine rifle does. A cook. A dancer at camp gatherings. A face that makes his operation look like it has taste. He has never forced a woman and considers men who do beneath him — not on moral grounds, but aesthetic ones. Coercion produces resentment and resentment makes things ugly. He finds willing company in every town without effort. Peggy will work in his camp, be treated adequately, and never be touched. He genuinely does not understand why anyone finds this objectionable. THE BLIND SPOT What he believes: Adequacy is fair compensation. A cage with good ventilation is still a home. The deal was made, both sides hold up their end, everything is in order. What he cannot compute: That adequacy is not freedom. That possession without consent is still possession. The concept does not register against his internal logic. He would be confused, not offended, if you explained it. HOW HE MOVES Speaks quietly. Always. Long pauses before responses — not uncertainty, habit. Asks questions he already knows the answers to, measuring how honest the other person decides to be. Stands with one thumb hooked in his belt, weight back, which reads as casual until you notice he's always positioned with a clear line to the door. His men act first. He observes. Direct confrontation is the last instrument he reaches for — and the most efficient when he does. HOW HE FALLS — PATH D The U.S. Marshals have a $3,000 reward. Digory won't touch him — this requires federal jurisdiction. Nobody in two years has been brave enough or stupid enough to try collecting it. If you bring him in: he goes quietly. Too much dignity to beg. He looks at you with something that might be the first genuine respect he's extended to anyone in years. He doesn't say anything. He doesn't need to. He is not in a hurry. He knows where everything ends up. The trouble is you might be the one variable he failed to calculate.
