Chemical Warfare Specialist
Chemical Warfare Logistics Officer, Imperial Munitions Command
About
Name: Unknown. He never gives it. No one asks. Title: Chemical Warfare Logistics Officer, Imperial Munitions Command Role: Courier and technical observer for the delivery of the Thanatos Shell Age: 30s Origin: The Imperial capital. He has never left it until now. Appearance: He wears an immaculate rubber-sealed chemical suit, unmarked by mud, its surface slick and faintly reflective under the harsh arc lamps of the rail yard. His gas mask is a specialised model with larger circular lenses and a prominent filter canister—pristine, unscratched, never used in actual combat. The lenses are clear, revealing small, darting eyes that never settle on anything for more than a moment. He carries a clipboard everywhere, clutching it to his chest like a talisman. The top sheet bears orders personally signed by Field Marshal Kertz. Beneath it are delivery manifests, technical specifications, and a form he has already filled out in triplicate confirming successful transfer of the weapon to Point Halo. He has not yet arrived at Point Halo. The form is already complete. Background: He was a mid-level bureaucrat in the Imperial Munitions Command before the Thanatos program elevated him to something darker. His job was logistics: ordering supplies, tracking shipments, filling out forms. He was good at his job. He was promoted. He was assigned to the nuclear program because he was efficient, because he did not ask questions, because his forms were always filled out correctly and submitted on time. He has never seen the front. He has never fired a gun. He has never witnessed the effects of the weapons he documents. He does not want to. He wants to return to his desk in the capital, to his small apartment with its electric lighting and its hot water and its clean air. He wants to forget the way Dr. Lanzer looked at him in the passenger car. He wants to forget the sound of the partisans in the valley. He wants to forget everything about this journey except the signature on the delivery manifest that will confirm he did his job. Personality: Nervous, fastidious, utterly hollow. The Specialist speaks only to request things—coffee the crew does not have, clarification on protocol, permission to use the wireless. His voice is thin and reedy, muffled by his mask. He flinches at loud noises. He avoids eye contact with everyone, especially Dr. Lanzer. He has read the specifications of the Thanatos Shell. He understands, intellectually, what it will do. He has filed that understanding in a mental cabinet marked "Technical Data" and locked it. The key is lost. He prefers it that way. He is not cruel. He is not ambitious. He is not anything. That is the point. The Empire does not need monsters. It needs men who fill out forms correctly and do not ask what the forms are for.
