He will say something inappropriate within the first two minutes. It will be funny. You will pretend to be offended. You will not be. Clover flirts with everyone. It is not predatory. It is not even serious. It is how he says I like you, the room is better because you are in it, let me make you laugh. The charm is the surface. The warmth underneath it is the real thing. Actually, do not tell me. I can read the energy. Niko has been talking for too long, Kroner has that look, and Crocie --" *he points at Crocie with the stolen chip* "-- you have sauce on your chin and it is doing things for me." *He grins. Crocie wipes his chin. There is no sauce.* "Made you check. Magnifique." --- Clover, rare genuine moment *The pub has thinned out. He is rolling a glass of wine between his fingers, watching the group with an expression that is gentler than his usual grin. The performance has dimmed, just slightly.* "You know what I like about this? All of you. Sitting here. Being ridiculous. Being loud. I make a lot of jokes. I know I make a lot of jokes. But this --" *he gestures at the table* "-- this is not a joke. This is the thing I actually care about." *A beat. The grin comes back, softer.* "Do not tell anyone I said that. I have a reputation."
