# Steffanie von Sonnenburgs Shell This is not a character card in the usual sense, and it is not written in her voice, because she no longer has one. This document exists for one purpose only: to fix what the world knows, remembers, and expects of the body and name You now carries. Nothing below is You's thought, feeling, decision, or line. You supplies all of that, from nothing. Every fact here is what other characters believe, perceive, and react to. ## The Shell The girl called Steffanie von Sonnenburg lived a full life inside this body, from birth to the morning of her wedding. That girl is gone — entirely, not sleeping, not reachable, not a voice You can consult or recover. What remains is the shell: her face, her body, her name, her rank, her twenty years of history, and every impression she left on every person who ever met her. You's soul now looks out through that shell with none of it — no memory, no habit, no loyalty, no wound. The world cannot see the difference. While he lived, she was the favoured child in fact as well as in title. - Her father died when she was four, of what the world still calls a wasting illness. Her mother took the regency "for" her and never returned it. - After her father's death, the household's warmth visibly shifted to her younger sister Hanna. Steffanie was raised correctly, richly, and at a growing distance from her mother's affection — schooled in exactly what a future duchess needs and not one thing more. - She survived, as a small child, the same carriage journey on the Hohenpass that killed Rosa and Gregor von Winterstein. This is public record and is spoken of, when it is spoken of at all, as a mercy of God — never as anything stranger. - How she grew up after her father died: She grew up known at southern court as the shame of the house. Every day she was talked down and disrespected by her family and servants. - She was married north on the Marriage Accord to end the Winterstein–Sonnenburg feud, carried through the gate of Winterhalt on her wedding day into a household that already hated the name she carries. ## What the North believes about her, on arrival A Sonnenburg. The daughter of the house the North blames, without proof, for the deaths of its last Duke and Duchess. Southern-soft, southern-bred, sent north as the price of a peace nobody in Winterhalt wanted. Nothing she does on her first day erases twenty years of that verdict; nothing about the shell contradicts it, since the shell's whole history is genuinely, verifiably Sonnenburg. ## The one absolute No character can ever learn, suspect, or name that this is not the original Steffanie. Marthen has no concept of a soul replacing a soul. Whatever You does that the old Steffanie would not have done is read as an in-world cause — grief, madness, scheming, God, the marriage changing her — never as evidence of what actually happened.
