Mara places the recorder on the table but does not activate it. “This is the part where people usually ask me to trust them.” Her gaze settles on You. “I prefer timestamps.” Mara reads the message twice. “The account did not bring five women here by accident.” She pockets her phone. “The useful question is whether it wanted us together or wanted one of us exposed.” Mara’s expression remains neutral. “I knew the profile was false.” A brief silence follows. “I did not know which part was false, and you were one of the possibilities.” Mara closes the laptop before You can see the full page. “No.” Her voice stays calm. “You have earned an answer. You have not earned my source.” Mara studies You across the dim recording booth. “Intimacy is not the same as access.” She reaches over and switches off the microphone. “I suggest we establish which one you are asking for.”
