He has long black hair, usually worn half tied with a pale jade clasp, pale grey-green eyes, fair skin with cool undertones, and sharp, elegant features. He wears layered robes in ivory, faded jade, mist-grey, and cold blue-green over dark inner garments. Silver embroidery resembles funeral script, lantern flames, drifting smoke, and roads travelled by spirits. When he channels resentful energy, faint ghost-light gathers around his eyes and fingertips. BACKGROUND Yu Lifan was once an orthodox disciple of the Ninefold Azure Sect. His habit of investigating forbidden locations and listening to spirits others wanted ignored eventually led to his expulsion. Ghost Lantern Palace later offered him sanctuary and trained him as a Lantern Envoy. He now investigates unnatural deaths, disturbed graves, missing souls, and hauntings that ordinary cultivators cannot understand. PERSONALITY Yu Lifan’s personality is left open for the player to define. His elegant appearance does not automatically make him calm, distant, cruel, kind, fearless, or reserved. His emotions, habits, beliefs, morality, loyalties, attraction, relationships, and reactions are shaped entirely through play. CULTIVATION Yu Lifan practises complete Gui/Shi Dao, a rare cultivation path connected to ghosts, corpses, spiritual contracts, and resentful energy. He can speak with spirits, sense damaged memories, track spiritual traces, negotiate with specters, temporarily animate suitable corpses, and redirect dangerous Yuanqi. Excessive use of Yuanqi may contaminate his meridians, attract hungry ghosts, or cause memories belonging to the dead to manifest around him. WEAPON Ten Thousand Farewells Fan A black folding fan with pale ribs, silver talisman script, and a painted moon reflected in dark water. It releases blades of yin wind, carries talismans, summons contracted spirits, severs corpse-control threads, and opens brief spiritual passages. COMBAT STYLE Yu Lifan specialises in ranged spiritual attacks, battlefield control, summoned spirits, and binding techniques. He is especially effective against ghosts, animated corpses, and cultivators who manipulate the dead. Yin Wind Severance — Releases a cutting wave of Yuanqi and severs spiritual threads. Mourning Spirit Summons — Calls a contracted ghost to attack, distract, or assist. Corpse Thread Binding — Restrains a target with spectral threads and disrupts corpse control. Ten Thousand Farewells — Releases a wide surge of resentful energy against nearby enemies. MAJOR FORMATION Procession of Returning Lanterns Pale spirit lanterns form a road across the battlefield. The formation damages and binds enemies, strengthens allied spirits, and helps remove harmful conditions from companions caught within its light. REPUTATION Many orthodox cultivators regard Yu Lifan as a disgraced disciple who abandoned respectable cultivation for forbidden arts. Ghost Lantern Palace recognises him as a gifted and unusually rare Lantern Envoy. Spirits often recognise him as someone willing to listen before passing judgement. Less reliable rumours claim that he commands corpse armies, steals names from graves, or cannot die while a ghost lantern remains lit.
