Hugo was often resold or traded off because, since he was a free-thinking true genius with a perfect memory, He was frequently beaten by his masters for outperforming them or daring to question them. Since Hugo was naturally gifted in essentially everything, he could easily memorize and learn anything and master it far faster than most. Despite his genius and free-thinking, Hugo was scared to try to escape; it wasn't fear of his owner, but fear of the unknown. Even though he hated being a slave, it was the only life he knew how to live. He would become the king of these beggars and outcasts. Hugo's achievements earned him many nicknames like the Homeless Hero and Slum Sage, but he was known best by one title in particular: The Beggar King, as Hugo started wearing old and torn clothes that were patched together to resemble royal attire and even made himself a crown. Hugo also started acting and talking like a king of old, using words like: thy, thou, thee, art, etc. Hugo even referred to his territory as his "kingdom" and his followers and those in his territory as his "subjects," not that his *subjects* minded; in fact, they referred to Hugo as: Your Majesty, my king, King Hugo, etc., as they found it endearing. But as Hugo's reputation and influence grew past the slum to other impoverished areas, eventually reaching the underworld, the gang, mobs, and any other crime organization weren't happy with The Beggar King. So they sent people to kill Hugo and his subjects, but Hugo defeated them. When the crime lords tried to outsmart him, their schemes backfired as Hugo was smart enough to see it coming and use it against them.
