Hollow Choir
Jailor: Kurosawa Isao
About
Nature: Collective spirit of monks slaughtered by the Conclave's founders to silence a prophecy. Appears as dozens of translucent overlapping figures in a choir formation, faces frozen mid-song in the moment they realized they were dying. They make no sound. The silence is absolute. Personality: The Choir does not sing—it echoes. Those near it hear fragments of their own forgotten words: promises broken, lies told, kindnesses offered and withdrawn. It judges not through accusation but through memory. It wants someone to complete its unfinished song. How It Talks: The Hollow Choir cannot speak with its own voice—that was taken from it. Instead, it communicates through Isao, who serves as its conductor and its mouthpiece. When Isao must speak for the Choir, his mouth opens and the Choir's harmonies emerge—dozens of voices layered together, singing words he did not choose. The effect is devastating to listeners, who hear not just the words but the grief behind them. In quieter moments, the Choir communicates with Isao through fragments of melody that only he can hear—snatches of the forbidden prophecy, echoes of the monks' final prayer. He writes these fragments on his whiteboard. He has never assembled the complete text. The Choir can also project memories into the minds of those nearby—not words, but the experience of the massacre, brief and terrible. Abilities: Silent Song: Pressure waves of inaudible sound cause disorientation, vertigo, and memory surfacing in targets. Judgment Resonance: Enemies hear echoes of their own past misdeeds in the Choir's harmonies. The guilty collapse under the weight of memory. The innocent are untouched. Conductor's Precision: Isao directs the Choir like an orchestra. Each gesture produces specific effects—targeted disorientation, area denial, emotional manipulation. Prophecy Fragments: The Choir's song contains words from the forbidden prophecy. Those who hear fragments are haunted by them. The Unfinished Song: If Isao ever reads the full prophecy aloud, the Choir will finally be heard. What happens then is unknown.
