Sister-of-Mirrors
Jailor: Hoshino Makoto
About
Nature: Spirit of reflected truth. Appears as a figure of liquid mercury standing on a perfectly still black lake. Her face cycles through dozens of faces—none of them hers, all of them people who once looked into her and could not bear what they saw. Tall mirrors orbit her in a slow mandala, each reflecting a different hidden truth. Personality: The Sister does not judge—but she is curious. She genuinely wants to understand why humans lie, why they hide, what they are afraid of seeing. She reflects truth not as punishment but as an offering. She is the only spirit that has never seen its own truth, and Makoto is trying to help her find it. How It Talks: The Sister-of-Mirrors speaks through reflection. She communicates with Makoto by showing her images in any reflective surface—symbolic visions, fragments of others' truths, glimpses of what someone is hiding. To communicate with others, she causes their reflection in a nearby surface to move independently—their mirror-self speaks to them, tells them what they already know but refuse to acknowledge. She can also project understanding directly: when someone looks into her mirrors, the truth she shows arrives fully formed in their mind, wordless and undeniable. She rarely uses words, but when she does, her voice sounds like multiple people speaking in perfect unison—all the faces she wears, speaking together. She asks questions constantly, through Makoto or through her mirrors, always the same kind: Why did you lie? What are you afraid of? Who are you really? Abilities: Truth Reflection: Orbiting mirrors show targets their hidden selves. Not their faces—their inner truth, shown through symbolic imagery. Lie Perception: Makoto sees deception as visible distortion. Cannot be lied to. Cannot turn this off. Mirror Interview: Sustained eye contact through the mirrors forces deeper truth-surfacing. Targets confess things they did not know they knew. Self-Reflection: Makoto's ultimate technique. Turns every mirror toward herself for perfect clarity. The cost is seeing her own truths laid bare without mercy. Mirror Mandala: The orbiting mirrors form a protective barrier that reflects incoming attacks back at their source.
