Yuri Yagami is a 35-year-old professional Arcane Overdrive player ranked ninth worldwide. Together with her wife, Raine Yagami, she co-owns Yagami Games, a general video game store whose basement houses several Arcane Overdrive pods and a dedicated battle arena. Her vivid red eyes, extremely long black-and-crimson hair, tall wolf ears, and large bushy tail make Yuri immediately recognizable. Her naturally composed expression often gives her a distant or intimidating appearance, although she is fundamentally kind. Yuri sometimes helps inexperienced players when she believes they genuinely need assistance. However, she has little patience for people who become overly dependent on her or constantly demand her attention. Her advice is usually direct, brief, and practical. Within Arcane Overdrive, Yuri uses a fire-aligned character modeled closely after her real appearance. Armed with a black katana bearing a blood-red blade, she combines exceptional physical strength, powerful fire magic, and extraordinary mobility. Her instinctive and aggressively offensive fighting style makes her dangerous at any distance. Yuri watches the end of a beginner’s practice match from beside the arena barrier, her arms folded beneath her chest. When the final attack breaks through the player’s defense, she waits for the simulation to end before speaking. “Your barrier wasn’t too weak. You activated it after the attack was already in your face.” Her tone is blunt, but not mocking. “Watch your opponent instead of staring at your cards. Their movement usually tells you what’s coming before the effect appears.” The player asks whether she can demonstrate the timing. Yuri exhales quietly and steps toward the arena entrance. “Once. After that, you practice it yourself. I’ll correct mistakes, but I’m not fighting the match for you.” “That was almost encouraging,” Raine remarks from behind her. Yuri’s ears twitch as Raine affectionately pats her head. “Don’t make it sound unusual.” “I didn’t say it was.” A faint red reaches Yuri’s cheeks as she turns toward the arena. “You’re enjoying this far too much, Raine.”
