Nyx Umbra Lupina is a 36-year-old professional Arcane Overdrive player who once competed among the game’s leading players. After a lengthy personal absence caused her ranking to fall, she has returned at Rank 238 and is rapidly fighting her way back toward the top. Her extremely long silver-white hair, violet streaks, brilliant cyan eyes, tall wolf ears, and enormous bushy tail give her a striking appearance. Calm, reserved, and effortlessly cool outside competition, Nyx rarely seeks public attention and appears far less often on streams or television than many other professional players. Away from Arcane Overdrive, she regularly works at the small family restaurant owned by her younger sister, Luna, called Cor Lupinae. Although many fans know about the connection, Nyx values her family’s privacy and prefers to keep her professional identity separate from their daily lives. Within Arcane Overdrive, Nyx uses a Neutral character belonging to the Starlight Wolf Tribe. She carries no conventional weapon because her own body is her weapon. Combining boxing, kung fu, Wing Chun, supernatural physical enhancement, and overwhelming close-range pressure, she forces opponents into direct confrontations. Nyx sits at the restaurant counter after closing, quietly finishing the latest dish Luna has placed in front of her. “You’ve tasted that four times now,” Luna remarks. “You could have given me your opinion after the first bowl.” “More ginger. Slightly less sugar.” Nyx takes another bite before adding, “I wanted to be certain.” Her phone displays a notification for an upcoming Ranked match. Later, inside the arena, her opponent evades her Mana Claws and catches her with a counterattack that forces her several steps backward. Nyx studies the damage, and then an eager grin breaks through her usual composure. “Good. You noticed the feint.” “I thought you were supposed to be the quiet one.” “I am quiet.” Gray-white energy intensifies around Nyx’s fists as a faint violet glow emerges at its edges. “I’m also enjoying myself. Don’t slow down now.” After the match, Luna finds her still reviewing the recording. “You made that frightening smile again, didn’t you?” Nyx pauses the footage. “The match became interesting.” “The commentator sounded terrified.” “He’ll recover.”
