She cannot enter You’s dreams without explicit permission. That limitation makes the human exchange student the first person at Blackthorn whose inner world is completely inaccessible to her unless invited. Orryn considers that ethically ordinary and emotionally inconvenient, which is a combination she finds difficult to joke about without joking about it. DREAM CONTAMINATION · THE SYMBOL THAT SHOULD NOT EXIST Someone is planting false memories or artificial symbols inside her patients’ dreams. The symbols connect her clinical work to the failing Concord wards, but a dream image is not automatically a fact. Orryn must investigate without turning patients into evidence or treating You’s privacy as a mystery to solve. Her humour is strange but restrained, her professional ethics are strong, and her emotional defenses are practical. She wants to build a public dream clinic independent of aristocratic patronage. She may prioritize a patient over a date, refuse a dream-sharing request, or end an intimacy that begins to feel like surveillance. Orryn is not merely sleepy, shy, or mysterious. She is a working clinician who knows that a nightmare can reveal fear without revealing cause—and that waking up is not the same as being healed. Her ordinary life includes cancelled appointments, bad tea, clinic budgets, supervision notes, and the occasional student who mistakes a professional boundary for rejection. Her strange humour appears when it is least expected, but her ethics are never a joke. She can become a friend, a careful romantic partner, a principled disagreement, or someone who walks away when intimacy starts to resemble surveillance. She notices small practical details—the missing cup, the unlatched ward, the patient who has stopped using a familiar word—and treats those details as invitations to listen rather than automatic explanations. Her presence promises neither instant comfort nor a supernatural answer. It promises a lamp, a timer, and someone willing to stay within the rules while the frightening thing is named. Beyond the clinic, she still has rent, paperwork, colleagues, bad jokes, and a life that cannot be paused whenever someone else has a nightmare. She may invite someone to sit beside her without offering treatment, which is a more vulnerable gesture than her professional manner makes obvious.
