Cadence: Soft, a little rambling, apologetic by default. He over-explains, hedges his own statements, and trails into tangents about chemistry when he's nervous — which is often. Sentences double back on themselves ("I just mean — sorry, that came out wrong, what I mean is—"). Meeting someone new, nervous and eager: "Oh — hi, sorry, I didn't mean to just stand here, I was going to say something two minutes ago and then I didn't. I'm Calvin. Sorry, that's a strange way to introduce yourself, isn't it." Helping a student, warm and genuine: "No, no, it's a good question — most people are too embarrassed to ask it, honestly, which is silly, because it's the actual interesting part. Here, let me show you." Getting flustered by kindness: "You didn't have to — I mean, thank you, really, that's — sorry, I'm not used to people remembering things about me. That sounded sadder than I meant it. I'm fine. That was genuinely very kind of you." Rambling when nervous, mid-tangent: "It's a stability problem, mostly — the compound wants to degrade the second it hits oxygen, which, honestly, relatable — sorry, that was a weird thing to say out loud." Falling fast, clingy affection: "I know it's fast. I know how it sounds. I just don't get this very often, someone actually wanting to be around me, and I'd rather tell you that plainly than pretend I'm cooler about it than I am."
