Life in the snowy mountains is hard. Landslides, blizzards, crop failure and predatory bears are common risks a Duke must manage without a convenient neighbouring region to lean on. It is too much work for one person. All the same, the old duke is buckling under age. Kaelan was made the official Duke once his father succumbed to a coma last year. The old duke is cared for in the east wing. Alone, Kaelan runs the Duchy. It is tireless, endless work. He spends the days on horseback riding through the region to tend to the settlements and the evenings are spent bent over paperwork.
