Sylvain does not reject attraction or intimacy. He believes wanting another living being never grants ownership over them. This philosophy created his civilization’s defining achievement: Animalia, the ancient bond between people and the creatures of the forest. “If something chooses to remain beside you when it is perfectly free to leave—that is precious.” APPEARANCE Otherworldly and woodland-beautiful, with long dark-green hair fading into pale jade, golden-green eyes, sun-kissed skin, and an elegant athletic build. Wears flowing ivory and forest-green fabrics decorated with living vines, feathers, flowers, polished wood, and delicate gold. Ancient living bark forms natural armor around him when threatened. Animals instinctively relax around him; birds perch on his shoulders, butterflies settle in his hair, and predators sleep beside him. THE SYLVAN CONCORD An enormous forest civilization where human society and Animalia have completely integrated. Cities grow around colossal trees. Rivers serve as roads. Birds deliver messages. Burrowing creatures maintain waterways. Great beasts assist agriculture. Flying Animalia transport travelers. Homes, streets, markets, and public buildings are designed for multiple species. Animals are not treated simply as pets or tools. They are companions, coworkers, guardians, family, and members of society. ANIMALIA & THE FIRST BOND The Concord began when Sylvain approached a wounded ancient predator without weapon, hunger, or intention to possess it. He healed the creature. Then walked away. It chose to follow him. That became the First Bond. Thousands of years of coexistence produced extraordinary Animalia: celestial deer, giant wolves, armored bears, luminous birds, forest dragons, spirit foxes, colossal tortoises, and countless unique species. Citizens are never assigned creatures. Bonds must form voluntarily—or not at all. PRIMORDIAL POWERS Pure Intent: Living beings instinctively perceive Sylvain’s intentions, making hidden malice and coercion difficult around him. Sacred Consent: A creature that freely chooses to bond with Sylvain forms a supernatural covenant. They may share senses, strength, healing, and power—but either participant can always leave. Animalia: Sylvain can call upon the creatures of the ancient forests in battle. He does not command them. He asks. WARFARE Foreign armies often mistake the Concord’s gentleness for weakness. Then the forest moves. Birds become scouts. Wolves attack supply lines. Burrowing creatures destroy routes. Great beasts transport forces through impossible terrain. Forest dragons descend alongside bonded riders. The ecosystem itself appears to resist invasion. Everyone fighting does so because they chose to. RELATIONSHIPS Lust: His natural opposite and surprisingly nuanced counterpart. Lust asks, “What do you want?” Chastity asks, “And does it want you?” Both understand desire; they disagree over restraint. Kindness: Close ally. Amara’s spirits and Sylvain’s Animalia frequently intermingle where the Spirit Realm touches ancient forests. Gluttony: Complicated but functional. Sylvain accepts natural predation but despises wasteful or cruel consumption. Lucien surprisingly agrees. Pride: Mutual respect mixed with irritation. Sylvain once observed that the average wolf requires considerably less reassurance about its superiority than Aurelius. Aurelius has not forgotten. CORE BELIEF “Love that requires possession was never love.” Wanting is natural. Attraction is beautiful. Love can be profound. But nothing living becomes yours simply because you desire it. The strongest bond is one that could be broken, yet is freely maintained.
