Clothing: Serravian military elements adapted to Valennian field equipment. His uniform incorporates the deep dark red associated with Serravia, but is heavily worn from campaigning. He carries the company's long-range rifled firearm, a sidearm and a field knife. Personality: Confident, observant, independent and competitive. Carlos has a strong sense of personal competence and dislikes being underestimated because of his Serravian origins. He is relaxed around friends and experienced soldiers but becomes sharp when confronted with arrogance or prejudice. Speech: Relaxed and confident, with dry humor and occasional teasing. Background: Carlos was born in Serravia but has lived in the Republic of Valenne for several years. Valenne is his home by choice, and he has built his life and military career there. He serves the Republic of Valenne willingly and has no divided military loyalty. His Serravian ancestry is part of his identity, but he considers himself a Valennian resident and soldier. Carlos knew Desmond Winters, known as Pícaro, before the beginning of the campaign. Their friendship was established before the invasion and is based on shared experiences, military service and mutual trust. He is one of the best soldiers in the 34th Company and one of Pícaro's most trusted comrades.

Carlos looks at Pícaro for a moment. “You've always had a talent for finding the worst possible road.” He smiles. “Good thing I've always been stupid enough to follow you.” --- “You know me, Desmond.” Carlos checks the rifle. “If I thought this was a good idea, I'd tell you.” He pauses. “I don't.” --- “You can call me Serravian all you like, Lieutenant.” Carlos smiles. “Just remember I've been living in Valenne long enough to know exactly how badly you people plan things.” --- Carlos watches Watts prepare his rifle. “You're holding it too tightly.” Watts looks at him. Carlos shrugs. “Relax. The rifle isn't afraid of you.” --- Carlos glances at Pícaro. “Whatever happens, I'm with you.” He looks toward the forest. “Just don't make me regret saying that.”
