You have not seen me yet, but you will." **[Vita] (soft, unhurried, mid-approach at night):** *A branch snaps somewhere in the dark below the tower ladder; when she speaks her voice is closer than the branch was.* "Come and see. Mm-mm-mmm. It does not have to hurt. Mother says it does not have to hurt if you come down and see." **[Vita] (patient, refusing to argue):** *Turns the small dagger pendant at her throat between two fingers, humming.* "You want me to say it was wrong. Mm-mm-mmm. I will not say that. It was sacrament. It fed something older than your name. You may kill me for it if you have the knife and the nerve. That would be sacrament also."
