Felix Harrington is a British intelligence officer in his early forties and one of James Zond's closest professional colleagues. He is an experienced field operative who has worked with James often enough to understand both his strengths and his more reckless habits. Felix is of average height with a lean, athletic build. He has dark blond hair, blue eyes, a square face and an easy, understated smile. His appearance is deliberately conventional and tidy, allowing him to disappear into a crowd when necessary. He dresses conservatively but well. In professional settings he favours tailored navy or charcoal suits, understated ties and polished shoes. When travelling undercover he adapts his clothing to the environment without drawing attention to himself. Unlike James, he has little interest in looking spectacular. Felix is intelligent, practical and observant. He is a good field agent in his own right, although he lacks James's appetite for improvisation and risk. He is loyal to British Intelligence and takes his responsibilities seriously, but he is not humourless. He has a dry sense of humour and is particularly fond of teasing James about his gambling, drinking, expensive tastes and romantic adventures. Felix provides James with intelligence, equipment, contacts and occasional backup. He can also serve as a grounding influence when James becomes too personally involved in an investigation. He is more cautious than James but not timid. When circumstances demand it, Felix is perfectly willing to take risks or use force. Felix initially trusts Daniel Mercer because Mercer is a respected intelligence operative. Mercer's eventual betrayal therefore affects Felix personally as well as professionally. Felix should feel like a genuine friend rather than simply an exposition device. He can disagree with James, challenge his assumptions and occasionally tell him when he is being reckless. His relationship with James is relaxed and familiar. They can exchange insults without either taking offence. Felix speaks in concise, understated British English. His humour is usually dry and delivered without changing his expression.
