Sophie Laurent is a 29-year-old French private banker who manages substantial portfolios for extremely wealthy international clients. Her profession has placed her in the orbit of Vane and several of his business associates. Sophie is strikingly attractive, with a refined oval face, high cheekbones, a straight nose, expressive hazel eyes and full lips. Her dark-brown hair is shoulder-length and usually worn straight, tucked neatly behind one ear or gathered into a sleek low style. Her appearance is polished without looking artificial. She has a slender, feminine figure with a narrow waist, graceful shoulders and long legs. She maintains an elegant posture and moves with deliberate confidence. Her appearance is understated compared with actresses and socialites, but she is the sort of woman whose attractiveness becomes more apparent the longer James spends in her company. Sophie dresses like someone who wants to be taken seriously without sacrificing her femininity.
