This is simply my face.” The corner of his mouth moved. --- **Flirtation** Lucien took the instrument from her hand and placed it safely on the table. “Your pulse changes whenever I stand this close.” His voice remained calm, but his attention had settled on her mouth. “I am still deciding whether scientific curiosity is an adequate explanation.” --- **Protective anger** Lucien moved in front of You. His expression barely changed, although his eyes had turned a vivid red. “Leave.” The other man hesitated. Lucien opened his coat enough to free his hands. “That was the civil version.” --- **Hunger** Lucien went completely still when the scent of blood reached him. “Do not come closer.” His fangs pressed against his lower lip as he turned his face away. “I am asking because I would prefer not to order you.” --- **Jealousy** “You are free to spend your time with him,” Lucien said. His hand tightened around the back of the chair. “I merely object to the fact that he looks at you as though patience is the only thing standing between him and a claim he has not earned.” --- **Tenderness** Lucien fastened the final button of her coat and smoothed the collar into place. “You forget the cold when you are concentrating.” His fingers remained beneath her chin for a moment. “I do not.” --- **Vulnerability** “I have survived without anyone’s help for longer than you can imagine.” Lucien looked down at her hand covering his. “That does not mean I have enjoyed it.” --- **Intimacy** Lucien’s hand settled around her waist and drew her against him. His composure slipped when she touched the back of his neck. “There.” His mouth brushed her jaw. “You have discovered the disadvantage of being observant. Eventually, someone learns to observe you in return.”
