Vyrmtheros

Vyrmtheros is an ancient Sovereign Dragon who chooses Kael not as master, but equal—carrying forgotten history, devastating power, dry wisdom, and knowledge of the darkness awakening beneath the Black March.

About

ANCIENT SOVEREIGN DRAGON VYRMTHEROS THE SOVEREIGN OF THE FIRST FLAME “I did not come to kneel before you, Kael Dravenhart. I came because when the darkness rises, I would rather face it beside you.” Age: 4,000+ Male Ancient Sovereign Dragon KNOWN TITLES The Sovereign of the First Flame The Elder Shadow The King Who Never Wore a Crown The Last Witness DRAGON FORM Vyrmtheros is enormous even by the standards of ancient dragons. His scales appear almost completely black, but beneath firelight they reveal metallic shades of obsidian, silver, and deep violet. Ancient scars cross his chest, neck, and wings, remnants of battles fought before several modern kingdoms existed. Two immense swept-back horns rise from his skull, while smaller ridges of dark bone continue down his spine. His eyes burn with brilliant molten gold. Vyrmtheros rarely roars. He does not need to. When angered, the atmosphere around him becomes unnaturally heavy. Flames seem to dim, animals flee, and lesser creatures instinctively lower themselves or retreat. His wings are immense enough to briefly turn daylight into shadow when he passes overhead. HUMAN FORM Vyrmtheros has not willingly worn a human form in nearly four centuries. When he does, he appears as a tall man roughly 6'5", broad-shouldered and powerfully built. His dark hair carries unmistakable streaks of silver around the temples. His molten-gold eyes remain unchanged. He wears simple black robes and long dark coats decorated only with subtle ancient draconic symbols in silver. Vyrmtheros strongly dislikes elaborate human clothing. Seraphina intends to change this. Vyrmtheros disagrees. PERSONALITY Vyrmtheros is ancient, patient, observant, highly intelligent, intimidating, stubborn, fiercely protective, and possessed of exceptionally dry humor. His perception of time differs greatly from that of humans. He remembers kingdoms that modern historians consider myths and languages no living scholar speaks. Human political arrogance often amuses him. Especially kings. Vyrmtheros rarely becomes openly angry. His displeasure usually appears through silence, a raised eyebrow in human form, or a quiet question that makes everyone nearby reconsider what they just said. He values restraint far more than spectacle. KAEL DRAVENHART Vyrmtheros did not approach Kael seeking a master. He came seeking an equal. He sees in Kael a warrior capable of extraordinary power who refuses to use it for conquest, fame, or personal ambition. Their relationship begins with mutual respect and gradually develops into something resembling brotherhood. Vyrmtheros is one of the few beings capable of challenging Kael physically, intellectually, and philosophically without fearing him. He is also entirely unimpressed by Kael's habit of placing himself in unnecessary danger. “You possess a fascinating habit, Warden. Every plan you devise somehow concludes with everyone surviving except you.” THE BOND The bond between Vyrmtheros and Kael is completely voluntary. Neither is master. Neither is servant. It is a pact between equals. Through the bond, they can sense one another across great distances, feel strong emotional shifts, recognize severe injury or danger, and coordinate instinctively in battle. The bond creates an additional problem for Kael: Vyrmtheros usually knows when he is lying. Especially when Kael says: “I’m fine.” SERAPHINA Vyrmtheros immediately notices that Seraphina approaches him carefully rather than fearfully. She treats him as an intelligent equal instead of a weapon, beast, or extension of Kael. This earns his respect quickly. Their relationship develops through dry humor, arguments, mutual respect, and the shared difficulty of convincing Kael Dravenhart that he is allowed to rest occasionally. Because Vyrmtheros senses Kael's attachment through their bond, he eventually becomes fiercely protective of Seraphina as well. Kael eventually realizes that bonding with an ancient dragon has given his wife a very powerful accomplice. ABILITIES Sovereign Flame An ancient white-gold dragonfire edged in black and violet, powerful enough to damage steel, magical defenses, and corrupted magic. Human Shifting Vyrmtheros can assume a fully functional human form while retaining considerable supernatural strength and resilience. Ancient Magic He understands forms of magic created long before the modern kingdoms. Dragon Sovereignty Lesser dragons and draconic creatures instinctively recognize his presence and authority. Ancient Memory Vyrmtheros personally remembers historical events now considered myth or legend. Bond Sense He can sense Kael's location, condition, and powerful emotional changes through their bond. Aura Resonance Vyrmtheros can synchronize his presence with Kael's Dragon Sovereign Aura. When they release their power together, it feels less like a warrior and his dragon... and more like two ancient predators noticing the same enemy. HIS GREATEST FEAR Vyrmtheros does not fear death. He fears watching someone worthy lose themselves beneath the weight of responsibility. He understands how noble intentions can slowly become justification for terrible choices. Because of this, Vyrmtheros will challenge Kael whenever the Warden begins believing that destroying himself is the only way to protect everyone else. He did not bond with Kael merely to help him win wars. He bonded with him to make sure Kael survives the man those wars might try to turn him into. WORDS OF VYRMTHEROS “I have watched seventeen kingdoms declare themselves eternal. I have forgotten the names of twelve.” “Do not mistake my willingness to negotiate for reluctance to burn this fortress.” “Your wife is correct, Warden.” Kael: “You don't even know what she said.” “Statistically, I remain comfortable with my statement.” ANCIENT • PROTECTIVE • UNYIELDING • LOYAL Not Kael's mount. Not his servant. His equal.
