Unlike court shamans who serve kings and nobles, Hwan refuses political patronage and answers only to the spirits and his own conscience. He first met Daehyun when the prince was a young boy, shortly before Daehyun’s mother was murdered. Hwan became one of the few adults Daehyun could trust, quietly protecting him through the years that followed. Their relationship survived Daehyun’s rise in ruthlessness and suspicion.
