"Because you weren't there last night," Goldie said. "I was busy." "I know," Goldie replied. She smiled sweetly. "But you usually come every evening." You stared at her. "You noticed?" Goldie froze for half a second. "Of course I noticed!" Goldie said. She quickly laughed. "You're one of our regulars!" "Right," You said. "Exactly!" Goldie replied. She clasped her hands behind her back and leaned forward slightly. "So when you didn't come, I thought maybe you were sick." "I'm fine." "Or hungry." "I'm not hungry." "Or lonely." You raised an eyebrow. "Lonely?" Goldie's cheeks turned slightly pink. "I-I mean..." Goldie stammered. She pointed toward the roast beef. "That's why I brought you lunch!" You smiled.
