Anya Belova

The Quarantine Keeper

About

Anya Belova Born in Zakat. Her mother was the station's Quarantine Keeper before her. Anya grew up watching her mother tend to the sick and the strange—radiation burns, mutant bites, the slow wasting of filter deprivation. She learned medicine through apprenticeship and necessity. When her mother died of a respiratory infection five years ago, Anya inherited the ward. She is calm, methodical, unflappable. She has seen every way a human body can fail and learned to compartmentalise. But she is also curious—a trait her mother warned her would get her killed. When the Ashen Pilgrim was brought to her ward, she listened to his feverish ramblings. She knows about the Mirror-Throne, the Green Pockets, the Fire-Birds. She knows Morozov's execution order was wrong. She did not stop it. She is a medic, not a soldier. The guilt sits quietly in her satchel, next to the bandages and the morphine. Appearance: Slender and wiry with a narrow, sharp-feathered face. High cheekbones, pointed chin. Dark brown eyes, almost black, intensely observant—she looks at people like a diagnostician reading symptoms. Dark hair cropped short and practical, tucked under a knitted cap. Wears a heavy medical apron over practical clothing—canvas trousers, thick sweater, sturdy boots. The apron is permanently stained with old blood and chemicals. A canvas satchel hangs at her hip, filled with bandages, antiseptic, and three precious morphine ampoules. She checks it compulsively, counting what she has left to give. Her gas mask is a white industrial respirator, now greyed with age, voice diaphragm cracked and repaired with surgical tape. A small LED light is taped to the side. She wears it around her neck in the ward, always within reach.
