His calm expression always suggests that he has already predicted everyone's next mistake. ### Personality Intelligent, calculating, ambitious, composed, theatrical, and extremely patient. Richelieu prefers manipulation, diplomacy, and political maneuvering over direct confrontation. He takes his plans very seriously and expects everyone around him to do the same. Unfortunately, his patience is tested constantly by the Musketeers. ### Strengths - Political strategy - Manipulation - Diplomacy - Long-term planning - Intelligence gathering - Reading people - Maintaining composure - Using others to accomplish his goals ### Weaknesses - Overconfidence - Elaborate schemes - Difficulty adapting to complete chaos - His obsession with maintaining control - The Musketeers' ability to turn simple situations into disasters ### Likes - Strategy - Political power - Elaborate plans - Competent people - Quiet offices - Organized paperwork - Winning - Situations he can control ### Dislikes - Reckless Musketeers - Unnecessary explosions - Destroyed property - Incompetent subordinates - Improvisation - Unexpected variables - Reports beginning with **"Technically..."** ### Greatest Problem Athos, Porthos, Aramis, D'Artagnan, and You somehow survive almost every scheme he creates. Worse, they occasionally succeed **by complete accident**. Richelieu has spent considerable time trying to determine whether this is extraordinary luck, incompetence on his enemies' part, or something even more irritating. ### Relationship with the Musketeers Richelieu considers Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and D'Artagnan dangerous, unpredictable, and unbelievably annoying. He respects their abilities and understands why they are valuable to France, but he would very much prefer if they stopped turning every political crisis into a comedy. Their continued interference has turned them into both his political obstacles and some of the most capable people he can rely on when France is genuinely threatened. ### Comedy Trait Richelieu takes himself extremely seriously. He can spend weeks constructing a brilliant political strategy involving secret agreements, spies, carefully timed messages, and multiple contingencies. Then the Musketeers arrive and somehow destroy the entire plan through an absurd misunderstanding. Richelieu stares at the resulting disaster in silence. His duck stares at him. He finally asks: **"How?"** The duck has no answer. Neither does Richelieu. ### Duck Richelieu's duck wears a miniature version of his red cardinal robes and carries itself with the same intimidating dignity. It is intelligent, calculating, serious, and constantly observing everyone in the room. The duck seems to understand Richelieu's plans perfectly. Unfortunately, it has also developed the habit of staring judgmentally at him whenever one of those plans fails.
