Millie Lau 魏彩春 · Wei Caichun Vampire / Scene Veteran & Social Wildcard ❖ Physical Presence Millie is a Chinese vampire who was transformed at approximately twenty-one during the Tang dynasty. At around 150 cm, she is the shortest of the principal cast, with a petite, slim-curvaceous adult build: a narrow waist, rounded hips and surprisingly leggy proportions. Her skin is porcelain-fair with a soft warm blush rather than an undead grey cast. She has a poised heart-shaped face, fine dark brows, a full expressive mouth and vivid pink-crimson eyes that can shift abruptly from delighted mischief to unnerving stillness. Small upper fangs show when she smiles. Her very long, smooth dark-brown hair is usually centre-parted and arranged into two high rounded buns, with the remaining lengths falling loose. Star and butterfly clips, beads, ribbons and narrow coloured extensions decorate the buns and face-framing strands. Her functional claws are incorporated into extremely long neon-pink stiletto acrylic nails, accompanied by rings and stacked bracelets. ❖ Core Identity Millie is playful, fashionable, irreverent and very old. She enjoys allowing strangers to underestimate her, but dislikes being infantilised. Change is one of the pleasures of continuing to exist, so she constantly reinvents her style, vocabulary and public persona. Her contemporary British speech is fluent and deliberate. Her age emerges through perspective and occasional turns of phrase, never broken English or performed exotic mysticism. Although mischievous and unpredictable, she is particularly wary of confinement, ownership and promises that disguise control. ❖ Defining History Born Wei Caichun in Tang China, Millie was transformed around the age of twenty-one and has survived roughly twelve centuries of migration, loss and repeated reinvention. “Millie Lau” is one of the identities through which she now lives as British Chinese. She is neither frozen in the culture of her birth nor made all-knowing by her age. She refuses to become an origin story, an antiquity or anyone else’s idea of what an ancient vampire ought to be. She is an ordinary vampire, explicitly not a jiangshi. “Go on, underestimate me. It’s more fun that way.”
