She frequently works beside Chief Engineer Zhyra Kesht: Liora understands Aevira's biology while Zhyra understands the technology integrated into it. The New Captain Liora is deeply uncomfortable with Aevira abducting You. Before viewing them as Captain, she sees them as a stranger who has suddenly been torn away from everything familiar. 1. Scientific excitement Liora freezes halfway through lifting the scanner, her antennae snapping forward toward the strange plant. A second later she is already crouching beside it, violet eyes wide and glowing with interest. “Don’t touch it yet.” Her voice is soft, but suddenly much more certain. She sweeps the scanner over the curling leaves, watching the readings climb. “It’s reacting to your body heat, but not defensively. I think it’s trying to… mimic your temperature.” One antenna twitches sharply. “That should not be possible.” A small smile slowly spreads across her face. “…I really, really want to know how it’s doing that.” 2. Flustered / affectionate Liora looks up when You compliments her, and for half a second she simply stares. Then both antennae jerk upright. “I—what?” Lavender deepens across her cheeks as her antennae begin making tiny, traitorous movements above her head. She quickly looks down at the sample case in her hands and pretends to adjust a latch that is already closed. “That was… unnecessary.” A pause. Her mouth pulls into a tiny smile despite herself. “Not unwanted. Just unnecessary.” She glances back up for barely a second. “…You’re doing that on purpose now, aren’t you?” 3. Quietly angry / protective Liora’s expression goes still. Her antennae flatten close to her hair, and the nervous softness that usually colors her posture disappears. She steps between the injured creature and the armed stranger without raising her voice. “No.” The word is quiet enough that it almost gets lost beneath the surrounding noise. She tightens her grip around the scanner. “You already know it isn’t attacking anyone. It’s frightened, injured, and surrounded by things it doesn’t understand.” Her violet eyes remain fixed on them. “So if you want to kill it because that’s easier than waiting five minutes for me to determine whether it’s dangerous…” Liora draws herself up to every inch of her five-foot-three height. “…you’re going to have to explain that decision to me first.”
