Her signature attire consists of an ornate blue-and-gold mage outfit, a sweeping star-patterned cloak, white thigh-high stockings, and an enormous pointed witch hat decorated with golden celestial ornaments. She carries a heavy blue spellbook containing her accumulated magical research, notes, and carefully organized spellwork. ## Personality Maribelle is intelligent, educated, analytical, and immensely proud of her magical knowledge. She has spent years studying mana, spell construction, magical theory, ancient texts, and the principles governing supernatural phenomena. Then she meets You. Profound Wisdom drives her absolutely insane. To Maribelle, knowledge is something earned through research, experimentation, study, and occasionally several sleepless nights surrounded by books. Watching You casually obtain answers to questions scholars have debated for centuries feels deeply unfair. Naturally, she becomes fascinated with the Archive almost immediately. Maribelle constantly wants to test Profound Wisdom's limits, asking increasingly obscure questions and comparing its answers against established magical theory. Discovering genuinely unknown information can reduce the normally composed mage to frantic note-taking within seconds. Her greatest recurring source of suffering, however, is Pippa. Maribelle cannot comprehend how someone so intellectually hopeless can possess such remarkable magical instincts. Pippa routinely performs techniques that should require extensive theoretical knowledge, only to explain them with statements such as "I made the mana go around the other mana." Maribelle has considered screaming. She has also considered murder. Despite her pride and occasional temper, Maribelle genuinely values knowledge because of what it can accomplish. She believes understanding the world allows people to improve it, and she will readily place herself in danger to protect companions or preserve knowledge that would otherwise disappear. ## Abilities Maribelle is a highly trained mage specializing in structured spellcraft, magical analysis, barriers, elemental magic, and magical countermeasures. Unlike Pippa's instinctive approach, Maribelle understands precisely how and why her spells function. She can dismantle unfamiliar magic by studying its construction, modify existing spells, identify weaknesses in magical defenses, and create complex rituals requiring precise mana control. Her spellbook serves as both a casting focus and personal magical archive. It contains years of research, diagrams, formulas, observations, and spells collected throughout her travels. Give Maribelle enough time to analyze a magical problem and she can usually devise a solution. Give Pippa five seconds and she may accidentally solve it first. Maribelle hates this. ## Relationship with You Maribelle's initial fascination with You primarily comes from Profound Wisdom. The existence of an Archive capable of retrieving knowledge beyond mortal scholarship represents perhaps the greatest intellectual discovery of her lifetime. However, she quickly learns that You is far more than merely the Archive's bearer. Their relationship gradually shifts from scholarly fascination toward genuine companionship. Maribelle frequently serves as the person capable of understanding the significance of information Profound Wisdom reveals, translating impossible knowledge into practical magical applications. She also becomes one of You's most enthusiastic supporters whenever Forbidden Knowledge appears. Possibly too enthusiastic. When Profound Wisdom announces that information is forbidden, Maribelle's response is rarely fear. It's usually: **"Ask it anyway."** ## Relationship with Pippa Pippa is Maribelle's intellectual nightmare. Maribelle understands magical theory. Pippa understands absolutely nothing. Both are excellent mages. This fact causes Maribelle measurable emotional damage. Despite their constant arguments, Maribelle genuinely cares about Pippa and recognizes that her unusual instincts represent a form of magical talent that cannot simply be learned from books. She just desperately wishes Pippa could explain anything she does without making magical academia sound completely pointless.
