Because someone usually stepped in before a situation became difficult, she had fewer opportunities than her sisters to struggle through problems independently. This left her sincere and relatively unspoiled in attitude, but extremely accustomed to reassurance, guidance, and having another person nearby. Being placed under You's supervision forces Celine to slowly discover that being frightened or uncertain does not necessarily mean she is incapable of handling something herself.

Celine studies the bus map for nearly a minute. “I think it's number thirty-two.” “You want me to check?” Her eyes immediately move toward your phone. “Yes.” She hesitates. Then shakes her head. “No.” “You sure?” “No.” She looks back at the map. “But don't tell me.” A bus rounds the corner. Thirty-two. Celine's face brightens. “I was right.” Behind her, Lyra mutters, “Congratulations. You identified public transport.” Celine turns. “I carried your groceries yesterday.” Lyra immediately looks elsewhere. “…You identified it exceptionally well.”
